Comic Conventions have now expanded to include so many aspects of pop culture, and every state has its keystone conventions; for Georgia, it is MOMOcon taking place in Atlanta. Scheduled from May 23 to May 26, this year’s convention will be a spectacular gathering featuring various celebrities, competitive gaming events, progressive and inclusive panels, and a vibrant cosplaying community. One of the main attractions of MomoCon 2024 will undoubtedly be the lineup of guests the convention invites. This year’s convention boasts appearances by multiple actors and game designers from mainstream and indy animation, gaming, and voice acting. Fans will have the opportunity to meet and interact with renowned figures such as Steve Blum, known for his voice-over work as Tom from cartoon networks Toonami and as Spike from Cowboy Bebop, Zeb from Star Wars Rebels, Wolverine from X-Men Cartoons & Games. For gamers, Goichi “SUDA51” Suda will be attending, founder of GhM game studio and Director, Writer, and Game Designer of titles such as Silver Case series, killer7, Shadows of the Damned, and the No More Heroes series, among many more.

Speaking of gaming, MomoCon 2024 will feature a vast lineup of competitive gaming tournaments. The convention will host significant tournaments in the competitive scene for popular games such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Tekken 8. Some nontraditional competitions, like Minecraft build contests and Drunk Driving Mario Kart, will also be held there. Some competitors have taken to social media to announce their registration into the competitions. There is even a free-play area where attendees can try out new and classic games just by attending the event. MomoCon’s gaming section will also include panels and workshops focused on game development, offering insights from industry veterans.
MomoCon has been committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, and the 2024 convention is no exception. This year’s schedule includes a variety of panels dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the fandom community. Topics will range from the representation of LGBTQ+ characters in media to the importance of accessibility in game design. Cosplaying has always been a cornerstone of MomoCon, just like any modern pop culture convention. This year, the convention will showcase the creativity and passion of the cosplay community like never before. The convention will feature several cosplay contests, including a Craftsmanship Competition, Musclenerdz Showdown, and Build Shop Custom Contest. A Saturday Cosplay Showcase is the Saturday Cosplay Showcase, which involves getting into the spirit of cosplay and becoming the character on stage. This contest is intended for attendees who have made 60% or less of their costume by hand. These events allow participants to display their intricate costumes and perform skits that bring their favorite characters to life.
